The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, works in close partnership with the President and Executive Committee, and leads the day-to-day management of the Association.

The role combines strategic execution, advocacy and government affairs, membership and revenue growth, staff leadership, financial stewardship, conference and event performance, communications, partnerships, and organizational accountability. A central expectation is to keep the Executive Committee and full Board appropriately informed, engaged, and equipped to fulfill their governance, strategic, and ambassadorial responsibilities.

The Executive Director directly supervises the Membership, Engagement & Communications Manager and manages FLASEIA contractors, lobbyists, consultants, and other staff resources.

Core Leadership Responsibilities

1. Strategic Plan Execution & Organizational Leadership

  • Translate the Board-approved strategic plan into annual operating plans, budgets, timelines, owners, and measurable KPIs.
  • Maintain an organizational dashboard tracking strategic priorities, performance, risks, opportunities, and resource requirements.
  • Keep the organization focused on Board-approved priorities and recommend adjustments when market, legislative, or organizational conditions change.
  • Bring clear recommendations and decision points to the President, Executive Committee, and Board as appropriate.

2. Board & Executive Committee Engagement

  • Maintain frequent, proactive communication with the President and Executive Committee.
  • Keep the Board appropriately informed on strategy execution, financial condition, membership, advocacy, conference performance, organizational risks, and major opportunities.
  • Prepare concise dashboards and decision materials sufficiently in advance of Board and Executive Committee meetings to enable meaningful input and action.
  • Proactively leverage Board members' expertise, relationships, and industry influence to advance FLASEIA priorities.
  • Work with the President to strengthen Board participation, accountability, onboarding, and continuity between leadership terms.
  • Clearly distinguish matters requiring Board governance or approval, Executive Committee guidance, and management execution.

3. Advocacy, Legislative & Regulatory Leadership

  • Lead execution of FLASEIA's legislative, regulatory, and public-policy strategy in coordination with the Board and relevant committees.
  • Monitor legislation and regulation; maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, utilities, and other decision-makers; and manage lobbyists and policy consultants.
  • Mobilize members and Board leaders when industry participation can materially influence an issue.
  • Develop fact-based positions centered on affordability, reliability, economic development, consumer choice, resilience, and responsible energy growth.
  • Coordinate with SEIA and other aligned state and national organizations while preserving FLASEIA's ability to work effectively across political parties and administrations.

4. Membership Growth, Retention & Engagement

  • Hold ultimate accountability for membership performance, including active members, new members, retention, engagement, and dues revenue.
  • Establish annual and quarterly membership objectives and review the membership pipeline and performance dashboard regularly.
  • Expand membership across solar, storage, microgrids, and relevant adjacent sectors.
  • Personally support high-value recruitment and retention opportunities when executive involvement can materially improve the outcome.
  • Ensure members receive measurable value through advocacy, education, networking, events, industry representation, and relevant benefits.

5. Management of the Membership, Engagement & Communications Manager

  • Directly supervise, coach, and evaluate the Membership, Engagement & Communications Manager.
  • Establish priorities, quarterly goals, and clear performance expectations aligned with the strategic plan.
  • Review the detailed membership operating dashboard, including calls made, connected conversations, consultations/pitches, qualified prospects, applications, conversions, renewals, attrition, retention, dues revenue, onboarding, engagement, benefit utilization, and member satisfaction.
  • Oversee execution of newsletters, website, social media, member communications, and engagement programs.
  • Maintain dues revenue as the basis of the Manager's existing incentive compensation while using the broader dashboard to manage overall performance and accountability.

6. Revenue Growth & Financial Sustainability

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow and diversify Association revenue, with membership dues as a core performance metric.
  • Grow appropriate non-dues revenue through sponsorships, conferences, education, partnerships, grants, and other mission-aligned opportunities.
  • Develop the annual operating budget for Board approval and monitor budget-to-actual performance, cash flow, and financial sustainability.
  • Provide timely financial reporting to the Treasurer, Executive Committee, and Board and maintain appropriate internal controls.

7. Solar & Microgrids Southeast Conference & Events

  • Hold overall accountability for the successful execution and financial performance of the Solar & Microgrids Southeast Conference as a major strategic priority.
  • Establish and track attendance, sponsorship, exhibitor, revenue, and profitability targets.
  • Work with Board and committee leadership to develop relevant programming and recruit influential speakers, sponsors, partners, and participants.
  • Use the conference and other events to strengthen FLASEIA's regional visibility, membership, member value, and financial sustainability.

  • Develop partnerships that expand FLASEIA's influence, membership, programming, and revenue.
  • Represent FLASEIA at important industry, governmental, and business forums throughout Florida and nationally when appropriate.

11. Staff, Contractors & Organizational Management

  • Recruit, develop, evaluate, and retain high-performing staff and maintain a culture of accountability, service, integrity, and execution.
  • Manage lobbyists, PR firms, consultants, conference partners, and other contractors against defined scopes, budgets, and deliverables.
